[kictanet] Airtel Misleading Customers

@ Wakaba, sounds like some con job. Sounds like those calls that people get when they are being asked to give out their mpesa codes by con-men/women. It might be useful to establish from Airtel if this is from them.

Peter,

That's most probably fraud, I doubt it's from Airtel. I got a similar call on my Orange line, this time the guy was asking me for same details but I was supposed to win a prize. Put it on loud speaker in the office. This person probably wanted to have your full details plus a phone number with them.
If your line is not registered why would it be operational for that long, or even at all?
Regards,

Listers it seems that airtel staff are under real pressure to convert clients to airtel money.
So yesterday a lady named Ashley called saying she is from Airtel.
This is the way the conversation went.
Ashley: Good afternoon sir, your line is not registered. You have 24 hrs to do so otherwise it will get disconnected.

Me: My line is registered. I bought it at the customer care centre on kiinange street. I even brought a copy of my ID.
Ashley: the line is not registered. Please give me you full names, address and ID no. Otherwise we disconnect within 24 hrs
Me: no way I am giving those details over the phone. And why now after all those months?
Ashley: if you dont your line will be disconnected.
Me: I will go to customer care centre then. Bye and have a nice day.

I hung up and after 24 hrs called customer care. After a bit of back and forth it turned that Airtel staff are telling people that according to CAK regulations you have to register for mobile money (airtel money). With a department that has been tasked to contact people to do that.
Whether this just the short cut taken by one individual or official position ????
The struggle it seems is very real...
