 @Ali
what of the 'air-ticket' analogy?
Would the airlines be acting harshly if they expired your ticket?  As in you must use it within a certain timeframe otherwise it becomes null and void...aka 'hot-air' ;-)

 Boss. Wrong analogy. I pay my rent for the month. I don't expect my landlord to tell me my rent has expired before the end of the month!
As for operating costs, please plan ahead and cost it accordingly. Your lack of planning or understanding of your operating costs should not be the reason you become unfair to me.
I don't understand why the Telco industry thinks that if they use jargon we'll all be awed and be ok with it. This is 2022! We are not awed. We are asking the right questions. And it seems the Legislators are too. Time to review this archaic rule.

Chairman @Ali Hussein even house rent is not perpetual to guarantee engagement between the landlord and tenant, expiry ensures that engagement between the service providers and the customer is maintained. Operating costs are also elastic.

@Barrack Otieno I vehemently disagree.

This is absolutely insane. No argument can deter me from my conviction that this is wrong. Once bought there should be no expiry date.
@Barrack Otieno, @Walubengo, and all you proponents of this expiry manenos. Let me ask you this - What exactly is the issue here? Why do telcos want to expire our bundles when we have paid for them? What are the technical limitations here? Or financial? Please explain it to me like I'm a six-year-old.

I agree with @John Walubengo. Sustainability is a key issue for any infrastructure or application service provider. I guess it is a component of digital literacy that end users should be made aware of continually.

Thanks for sharing this. This is what happens when we lack a clear policy on Net Neutrality and the usage in general. What the lawmakers are doing is what we in Kiswahili call 'kutapatapa' or in English to be all over the place.
Let this be something that we as an industry take up with the lawmakers and work with them to come up with solid policies to address this issue.

Parliament will probe telecommunications firms for imposing expiry dates on data bundles, airtime and loyalty programmes such as Safaricom’s Bonga Points, setting the stage for a fresh battle between the lawmakers and the operators.

The National Assembly’s committee on Communications, Information and Innovation says it will also inquire into the widespread Internet speed throttling practice by internet service providers (ISPs).
