vertical integration move by Kenya Power. Backward to be able to better
utilise the power grid infrastructure vide riding the fibre on the existing
power grid, Forward to be able to bundle solutions (power & data) to the
already existing customers. Due to the economies of scale and already
existing infrastructure (distribution, subscription, customer service) this
is a welcome move which if well managed will lead to reduced product
costs(both power & data), higher penetration and efficiencies through
reduced redundancies and customer service. For this benefits to be
achieved, the process needs to be creatively implemented devoid of
regulatory and political interference.
