[kictanet] CONNECTED GOVERNEMENT SUMMIT 2010 - MARCH 29TH TOAPRIL 1ST - LEISURE LODGE , DIANI

Mwesh,

I think we will have live feeds, from the venue as Lucy and the Chairman from the ICT Board have promised..

Participants can engage online, to follow the different discussions and presentations ongoing. I believe this
should next usher us into the era of live video conferencing - hopefully, as broadband becomes "Real broadband",
and affordable..

One good thing is that this conference is sponsored by one of the main broadband service providers in the country.
I suppose the question of Mobile broadband costing/affordability needs to be covered at this summit exhaustively
especially given that the theme is "Connected Government". Simply put, what's causing prices to remain astronomical,
when several optic fibre cables have landed on our shores- etc, etc. Is it licensing? Then spotlight needs to turn
to the regulator to make it easier for the realization of lowered pricing. Is it overheads costing, as it was mentioned
earlier on the forum? - hardly. I differ, especially given the huge profit margins being made. Maybe the shareholders?
Not really, perhaps it's time we rein in on private profit interests so that they do not overtake national interests.
Let's balance them out.

I look forward to Broadband being given airtime, lest it might be interesting to know how Govt. plans to interconnect,
without broadband. Or delivery of services over broadband with price tags hitting the ceilings..

Harry

The ICT meeting at the coast was sponsored by Safaricom, Its a connected Government summit.

CEOs of all government companies, ministries (PSs), and big ICT players were invited. The coordination was done through The Kenya ICT Board.

If you did not get an invite, and feel you should have, the person to lynch is Kukubo. :)

So there was an invite for an ICT meeting at the Coast?
Just like somebody has asked, what is the rationale and criteria for
selecting the participants?
And the invitations?

Man is a gregarious animal and enjoys agreement as cows will graze all
the same way to the side of a hill!

AND

It is better to die in dignity than in the ignomity of ambiguous generosity!
