I'm still stuck at "Community"...
1. Lets be honest, are social media users a "community" or are they the product?
2. Even if we assume that the users are a community, who have to abide by "community standards" that they did not participate in their making (and without independent recourse), does that not make social media platforms a new form of tyrannical 21st Century pseudo-world-government?
3. The word community has socialist connotations. It gives users (products) a sense of platform ownership (emphasis on "sense of"). How come problems (and intangible benefits) belong to the community but material benefits exclusively belong to a few individuals? Perhaps platforms would be less problematic if they were community owned and operated.
4. When will global platforms start paying taxes fairly in each jurisdiction?
5. When will they stop operating illegally in some jurisdictions where they extract value (e.g. failing to set up a local office, failing to register for PIN, failing to register for VAT as required by law)?

The protagonists are usually Governments or large organisations. These protagonists have mastered the game, and understood how content moderation works. This speared account is then brought down, or the content moderated. We have seen this happen to one particular twitter account which was not very friendly to the establishment. I have seen this tactic employed by cryptocurrency rivals to bring down opponents.
We should understand the difficult environment social media platforms have to go through navigating social-political challenges all over the globe. Governments themselves have grown to be very assertive, and some even try to mimic the China model of banning platforms all-together to reign on their citizens. On the other hand, platforms have to find a balance to grow market share without the wrath of governments. It is business suicide for platforms not to conform to government standards else they will loose market share. The important thing is find a working balance.
Facebook should understand the political environment it operates in, and communicate clearly how it handles politically incorrect accounts. Perhaps, another "Talk to Facebook" is due.

The Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet) is a multi-stakeholder platform for people and institutions interested and involved in ICT policy and regulation. The network aims to act as a catalyst for reform in the ICT sector in support of the national aim of ICT enabled growth and development.
