When did the coffee start to be served?
Too much coffee aroma around for now and it seems there will be plenty on the table to drink very soon! As the local community, we look forward to hanging out within public schools to access the free internet - so the impact will be even greater.

Someone help me here - this "free internet thing by private players" in the name of inclusion or public service will it lead us to the whole price distortions discussions or discrimination discussions at some point? "...majuto ni mjukuu".

I recall years back when shares were being sold locally one of the bidder at least offered Ksh. 1 (or such a figure) - just so that they weren't offering "free service"). They took the cake home and built a portfolio while also building their organisation's identity in their industry.
My take is that this project is already too late - it should've been in the kids hands already. m|y prayer is that new fiascos that lead to delays have no room to come in. Wel be taking too many kids and our country backwards.

Blessed day.
Regards/Wangari

 Just read in today's dailies that Airtel has woken up and smelt the coffee - and now offered to providing 'free' internet service to primary schools.

Were the other providers requested if they could provide similar services ...free or not? It should be a level playing ground.Even if Safaricom stepped up and offered the services (for free), I wonder what obligations they would expect the govt to make in the future.

Warm Greetings Phyllis,
Thank you for the updates. It is exciting to just imagine little fingers have their digital world opened up.
On the internet component, is this commitment you've cited open to any other provider who would be interested to commit to give free internet?
Secondly is this offer similar to the free facebook internet discussion that was in this community aka net neutrality discussions?

Have a blessed day.
Regards/Wangari

 @Walu

 Safaricom made the commitment and will offer the internet free of charge from their funds.

@Phyllis
This is good progress - even though some of us seem to have missed the train on this one :-)
walu.NB: Just curious though. Safcom to offer internet to all schools...I dont speak for Airtel, Orange or other service providers...but wearing their hat I would  ask why (only) Safcom?
