Some fodder for your thoughts:
1) JKUAT requires high spec machines but not Taifa Laptops. Unless they are sneakily describing a Taifa Laptop?
http://www.jkuat.ac.ke/laptop-specifications-for-new-students/
2) Question: are Taifa Laptops fully manufactured in .ke or assembled from parts imported complete?
if fully manufactured then they need to improve their sales strategy
else if only assembled then there is an additional unnecessary markup without any guarantee of quality
3) In the cases cited where local products were promoted (S. Korea for Hyundai etc.), I’m pretty sure there was corresponding restriction of imports. The restriction of choice was done at a state level not at a single public institution to exploit parents in a desperate position. In this case as described by (1) above only the specs were made open but students not forced to by Taifa Laptops. What happens to students who already had a laptop before they enrolled?
