Lets not squarely put the success on the services you mention below, today if you download movies from illegal sites in US, you get a warning from the ISP that they will block you.

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is one of the most abused acts at worst and completely ineffective at best. Studies have shown that it's services like iTunes, Netflix, Rdio and spotify that have lead to reduced piracy rates in the US and not the law. Which is why I keep come back to the business model problem
