As can be deduced from the many copyright/patent and other court cases, the
law does inhibit investigation, since those opposing change use the laws
meant to cure a different ill to stop the innovative entry from changing
the way they do business.

Innovation can still happen without infringing laws, but we will just take
longer to get there, and the copyright holder will no longer be part of the
change and they will die, with their copyrights.
