I find FOSS to be much better. I have read somewhere in the list someone talk of how he would support a farmer since the farmer helps to produce food that he eats but doesn't support the idea of actually going to the farm and help the farmer in farming. my question in this argument therefore, is there a cycle in the  benefits (support for innovation and creativity) of proprietary software or is there just one outcome for the same benefit. (all parties benefit for the good of development). if the government is to adopt FOSS then kudos, besides most governments have sifted. like the french and the United States Whitehouse

I am entertained by this so called "Microsoft’s official company statement in response to the Open Source Vs Proprietary Software"

From Linux Foundation >>> For the first time, Microsoft appears on list of companies that are contributing to the Linux kernel. Ranking at number 17, the company that once called Linux a “cancer,” today is working within the collaborative development model to support its virtualization efforts and its customers. Because Linux has reached a state of ubiquity, in which both the enterprise and mobile computing markets are relying on the operating system, Microsoft is clearly working to adapt.

Truly, times have changed in the software world. Microsoft is playing catch up..

I guess this statement was responding to this article  http://www.standardmedia.co.ke/?articleID=2000066158&story_title=state-warned-on-ditching-copyrighted-software where one of their staff made outrageous statements.

Luckily, today, users know better!

Please see below Microsoft’s official company statement in response to the Open Source Vs Proprietary Software.

The open source versus proprietary software debate is no longer relevant. Most customers today operate diverse environments and simply want their technology to work together well, hence the need to focus on interoperability.
At Microsoft, we help customers optimize their existing IT infrastructure while also transitioning to new technologies.
We help solve their interoperability challenges and find efficient and cost effective solutions for their mixed IT environments.

Microsoft’s commitment to ‘openness’ also supports developers and partners. We have built close partnerships with the PHP, Apache, and Linux open source communities. (According to the

Linux Foundation, Microsoft is ranked as a top contributor to Linux.)

Customers are at the heart of our approach. We enable customers to deploy and manage solutions in environments that integrate Microsoft and open source technologies. Multiple engineering teams at Microsoft actively participate in open source
projects and share the common industry view that software users will continue to see a mixed IT and development environment for years to come
