[kictanet] M2M and Konza city

Actually, the infrastructure does not have to be fibre, wireline. What
would be useful is to see what is happening in the industry and as much as
possible adhere to the standards that will allow for a horizontal growth.
This needs to be in the blue print - overall konza blue print.  There are
many use cases for smart cities smart homes etc and whilst we should tailor
make our solutions we should keep in mind that we ought to be able to allow
for inter working and reuse of infrastructure. The tragic issue would be
develop a bespoke smart city/ smart home infrastructure that does not allow
for any flexibility.
ETSI is currently working on standardisation and in fact have released the
first issue of M2M. These are the guys who gave us GSM which is by far the
most pervasive wireless standards. Hopefully, their work will gain as much
traction in the M2M space. So far so good, at least going by the vendors in
the different industries.
