Grants Available for ICT-based Projects!The Swedish organization SPIDER offers catalytic seed funding to innovative ICT4D projects in partner countries, within their thematic areas and crosscutting ICT4D priorities. Innovative and experimental projects are encouraged, along with strategic interventions in specific areas. Projects that generate good results are expected to be upscaled.

SPIDER’s thematic areas: democracy: e-government, e-governance and ICT for empowerment; education: education management, e-learning and digital literacy; and health: healthcare management, e-health and public health. They work on cross-cutting ICT issues such as low cost and high quality technology, free and open source software (FOSS) and mobile technology for development (M4D). Their main focus in terms of development issues is in youth empowerment, cultural creativity, and capacity development. SPIDER works primarily with twelve priority countries for Swedish development cooperation: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

Organizations from partner countries can apply for funding at any time, by submitting a concept note. On some occasions, SPIDER will also announce open calls for applications on specific areas of interest. Organisations that receive a positive review of their concept note are expected to spend at least 2-4 months preparing their full proposals. Proposals that are accepted will receive catalytic short-term support (1-2 years).
