Dkt/Listers,
This is a very interesting article, which highlights the positive strides made by all stakeholders in getting Kenya on the Map at No 97.
Of particular mention is the “wait-and-see” approach that potential foreign outsourcers are taking on the MEA region and of course Kenya is a default victim in this – reinforcing the late Prof. Saitoti’s call in Mombasa on Friday on urgency of having a free, fair and peaceful elections.
Now that we are on the map, it is all up to us to get to top 30 or better in 2013! Here’s my take on what MUST be done to achieve this:
1. Local organizations need to be educated on: the advantages of outsourcing; what needs to be outsources; how to identify a quality service provider…..
2. The government MUST begin to aggressively outsource non-core services to private sector..PPP initiatives jump to mind
3. Providers need to be more innovative in their service offerings. Training programs must be set in motion to building a larger middle management pool for providers
4. The multi-stakeholder initiatives already underway (centers of excellence, marketing, certification) need to be reviewed; refocused and reinforced.
5. Government entities seemingly mandated in their TOR’s in the development of the sector (ICT Board; PM Working Group; Brand Kenya, etc) MUST be vetted afresh with TOR’s and deliverables re-aligned and performance based contracting enforced. Duplication in mandates in these organizations, in my view, has worked against a faster advancement in the sector.
My take
Best Regards,
Edwin

Hi Edwin - the password is Th010n$2012 and it works! Personally, although I am not strongly involved in this area, am impressed that Nairobi has made the Top 100, albeit at 97, given that there are thousands of cities in the world!
