KENIC's Whois shows wingu.co.ke was created on August 10 2011.  The
registrar is Webhost Kenya Ltd.   But they've had the name for more
than half a year.

Using KENIC Whois to check availability might calm your fears for any
future name search (in the past some registrars, not in Kenya as far
as I know, have done what you've described) .
