Dear All,

Great voices on the issue of digital switchover. I wrote some article late last year attached for your consideration.

I agree with Hook int saying that if the Govt. was serious about the migration then they would have facilitated importation of the set-top boxes if not banning imports of analogue tvs. The case being that they didn't do that what now? Push the deadline again? and again?

I read a lot of mischief too in declaring that a potentially humongous swath of the country will have no access to the TV news come January 2013. Where are the Set-top boxes? and where is the movement of the government in educating the public why they need to bother with these fangled contraptions? The media campaign with TVs swimming across a river elicited curiosity, not action.

My understanding is that he meant the B&W TVs cannot use STBs, which might be right or wrong, depending on the interfaces provided on the TV for connecting input devices. All TVs are not the same. We should not wait till everyone can afford STBs. They will catch up one day:-)
We cannot wait till everyone buys a car so that we start taking a journey than can only be taken by car. Those who don't will "take a lift" from those who have already. Those whose TVs stop working can watch at the neighbors.

I'd surmise he (rightly) meant that some people cannot afford a colour
TV let alone a decoder. So what happens to them?
