I concur with you entirely.

Let's however not throw the baby with the bathwater. The new constitution
is generally a good document but like any constitutional process it's not
perfect. That's why we have offices like the Supreme Court to sometimes
interpret the law.

And mwananchi all of a sudden become litigious is a very good thing.
Kenyans for a long time have looked helplessly as leaders did what they
wanted with total disregard to the best interests of the country. The
previous CCK DG appointment is a case in point.

On the point of who is best suited to be the new DG, I think it goes beyond
basic technical qualifications. I believe the TOR for the DG would be very
clear on that. Often we don't even require the candidate to demonstrate
tangible leadership skills and track record. I believe that at this point
in time the technical aspects of one's CV (be it as a lawyer, techie etc)
should be taken as a matter of course so that we can focus on one's track
record, ability to navigate the mushy and muddy waters of Kenya's public
sector where galvanising both internal and external stakeholders is a key
KPI.

The untold story here is the performance of the Board of Directors at CCK.
I find it gratifying that CCK has a deep enough bench of potential CEOs
that all three shortlisted candidates are insiders. This can only be good
for the organisation as it shows that the board is keen on continuity and
is planning well for succession. How many other organisations in this
country can claim the same? And I mean both in the public and private
sector. I think you will find the answer to that very disappointing.

To add another feather to their cap this is the board that had the Cojones
to stand up to a Minister when they disagreed on the choice of DG.

So well done CCK board and may all other public and private sector
organizations learn from you.
