[kictanet] Kictanet alive.. kickin, or kicked into KICTAnet 2.0

Gilda,
Let us get some mileage out of this disruption by proposing a revamp of Kictanet into a blog with multiple threads. In my view Ben Akoh raised some very serious issues that require discussion and possibly policy intervention. Such interventions do not just happen unless the issues are elevated to a level where politicians incorporate them into their DNA.
We need to disagree on various issues but we need to rally behind issues of common understanding. The Military does this better to build consensus and cohesion. Often they create a rallying song as they go through their routine exercise.
Just last week I visited a city school and found kids singing "Maranda must go... We must win". I sure majority of the kinds in the group had no idea where Maranda was but they understood they must work hard and beat Maranda.
The Nazis used to say "if you want to tell a lie, tell a big lie that even yourself belief it is true". Here in Brazil the moto is "A rich country without poor people". Of course there are poor people here but they want to belief there isn't. We must deal with our stereotypes as perceived by comedians not by denying but by building consensus on who we want to be just like the Brazilians. Every person in the room laughed at Churchill joke, this was the sad part and not my provocative statement.

Dear Dr.Ndemo,
In my view, Yawe's sensational headline actually ended up bringing out
the relevance of Kictanet and way forward in some areas.
For one, some lurkers came out and confirmed previous assumptions we
had made.
It is not negative at all. How we turn around situations is what
determines whether it is really negative or positive.
With due respect, it is time we stopped joining the stereo-typing
bandwagon and prophesied better things for ourselves as Africans. We
should not continue falling back into the negative tags Africans are
given. As I had said in an earlier email, why not turn the "negative"
into "positive"?
What I saw here was positive, informative and educative content in the
emails responding to Yawe's alarmist subject headline, nothing negative
that warrants your "We are just Africans" statement.
I am a proud African woman and I do not see myself as "just an
African".
I have never seen any comments saying "we are just white" yet the world
is full of negative white people too!
Much as there are many Africans out there who are not at the same level
as others, we should not say "typical African" whenever we see or
perceive anything to be negative.
Ofcourse, many Africans seem to be challenged in many things but then
again, many others have overcome some of these challenges. Those who
have overcome simply turn the negative thing around. Sooner than later,
you win people to your side.
Truth be told, a lot of these things were all foreign to Africans.
Unfortunately, due to unfair terrain of infrastructure, many are not as
exposed as others. Some only joined the wagon when they reached the city
and are still learning from poor examples. Others caught on while some
are still lagging. But I know, all of these developed economies never
started where they are today. We can leap frog, and we have in many
instances, but we are still on the journey.
So we are not "just Africans".I believe the listers are all proud
Africans.
And no,Yawe has not hoodwinked anyone into forgetting the discussion on
way forward. Listers are just lurking.
Lurkers, come out of the shell, even if just for this time to discuss
way forward for Kictanet!
Worry not about stepping on anyone's toes- as long as you mean well,
there really should be no problem. We all respect each other in this
list.
Time for me to lurk a bit!
Kind regards,
Gilda
