[kictanet] Identity.go.ke not working August 22, 2011

Dear Kictanet friends

Is it possible that open government is not working very effectively? I am
not trying to be negative. Just reporting an actual problem I am facing.

I am attempting to assist my sister in receiving her identity card. Her
names are Patricia Njeri Wairimu. Her home district is Nyeri,

She received a waiting card with serial number 2278757153. We took her to
the Nyeri office in person to pick up the card and the officers said "it was
not there."

I then went to http://www.identity.go.ke/index.php?option=com_php&Itemid=122

and fed in her serial number as requested (the first nine digits). I
received no acknowledgment, and nothing happened.I do not know if the online
system is not working or what the problem is.

I then emailed dr.nyeri at identity.go.ke, and pro.central at identity.go.ke which
are the emails on the website so that they could advise where this card is,
and do the work on your end, so that we may know where to pick it up.

BOTH of the emails bounced back immediately as a permanent failure.

This is not an encouraging development.. . . .

Does anyone have any thoughts on the breakdown of the digital side of
identity.go.ke?
