The theme of this year’s AITEC Banking & Mobile Money West Africa Conference is “Thought leadership & innovation to survive & thrive in the new banking era”, responding do the changed banking landscape in Nigeria. ** Graham Gilmour, CEO of The Business Phone in the UK, will talk on “Empowering Africa’s new mobile merchants”
** Marc Sternberg, MD of Spark ATM in South Africa, will speak on “Four easy steps to grow your ATM network”
** Santanu Sengupta, Secretary of the Change Innovators Society in India, will share his experience on “Mobile money and banking: The pivot for financial inclusion”
** Thuo Solomon, Technology Business Consultant at SevenSeas Technologies, Kenya, will cover “Contact centres and business processes”
** Piet Biemans, CEO of POFIB Development in The Netherlands, an international expert on postal banks, will speak on “Postbanks and postoffices: Improving financial inclusion and synergy with mobile money developments”
** Marius Krige, CEO of Aperta, South Africa, will speak on “Addressing strategic reforms in the interbank payments cycle” 
Sean Moroney, AITEC Chairman and the Conference Programme Director, said the main aim of the programme is to equip the region’s banking professionals and managers with the knowledge they need to succeed in a challenging new environment. “We need to redirect the thinking of bankers from short-term, high-yield transactions, to more longer-term, inclusive banking operations where banks return to their roots of financing investment in entrepreneurship, growth and development.” 
Programme Advisory Board sets more Panel Discussions 
The latest meeting of the Programme Advisory Board, held in Lagos on 24 March, discussed a wide range of new ideas for the conference, including the need to add more Panel Discussions. The following Panel discussion topics were agreed: 
** Nigeria’s banking switch landscape: Building increased capacity and competition or an electronic Tower of Babel?
** Bank CEO Panel Discussion: Thought leadership & innovation in the new banking era
** Stratification or integration? Which way to go in the new banking paradigm
** Skills and professionalism development in the new banking era
