Canada’s ICT innovation promoted at WCIT 2010

Canada’s 65-person delegation, led by Ministry of Industry Tony
Clement, has returned from the World Congress on Information
Technology (WCIT 2010) in Amsterdam where they promoted Canada as
an ideal business and investment environment for information and
communications technology (ICT) to representatives from around
                           the world.

“WCIT has provided a valuable opportunity to highlight the
important investments our government has made in ICT and the
digital economy to strengthen the global economic recovery," said
Minister Clement. "I look forward to welcoming delegates to WCIT
2012 in Montréal and showcasing Canada's strong ICT industries
               and our digital economy strategy."

Mr. Clement and the Canadian delegation met with a variety of
politicians, senior business leaders, high-level officials,
academics and opinion leaders over a three-day period, as well as
participated in a ceremony handing over this “Olympics of ICT”
                   event to Montreal in 2012.

Mr. Bernard Courtois, Chair of WCIT 2012 and speaker at the
Amsterdam event, gathered best practices, feedback and ideas from
people for hosting a successful event in Montreal. “We brought an
impressive delegation to Amsterdam and we got great reception,”
said Mr. Courtois. “I was really energized by people’s
expectations that Canada will host a high-caliber WCIT event in
2012 that will draw strong representation from around the globe.”
