In summary the first part of the article (what I was interested in) talks about how platforms are taking over the net and are squeezing out the liberty to develop apps that use the net. Platforms include facebook, google apps and apple.

One of the main arguments is that e.g. in Facebook the developer has to agree to the terms of the platform which might not be very favourable.

"...[There are] rights to charge the makers of applications for the privilege of allowing that application to continue to exist on Facebook at any rate Facebook chooses. Rights to terminate any application that they don't like, for any reason..."
