Hi,

Interesting issue, just this morning I was telling a manager at Telkom how our BPO model is skewed for failure.

How do we expect to compete with village graduates when using urban graduates, hope our fellows are hearing this issue.

Subject: [kictanet] Rural BPO

The sceptics are quickly dismissing Vijay Rangineni. He is Chief
Operating Officer, Satyam BPO Limited based in Hyderabad, Andra Pradesh
State. He says that he has been through the season of sceptics before
and has come full circle: 10 years ago hardly anybody believed that
outsourcing business processes from the US to India was a business
proposition. Now Satyam BPO are moving to the next level - outsourcing
non-verbal work to the rural villages in Andra Pradesh. Villagers are
given basic data entry training lasting 3 months and now Vijay is
helping oversee a workforce of over 40,000. Already he has bagged
lucrative contracts including working on digitising the library of
Harvard University and being the official IT Solutions provider for the
2010 FIFA World Cup. Vijay appears happy with progress so far and the
trends. He mentiones a staff attrition rate of hardly 2%. This, he
quips, is perhaps due to the fact that the workers are working in their
home villages rather than the uncertain environments of large urban
areas.... Visit www.satyam.com
