Further information on the NEF can be found below and on our recently launched website at <a href="http://www.nef.org" target="_blank">www.nef.org</a></div><div><br></div><div>As part of the NEF, we are looking to identify 15 of Africa’s top young scientists (including social scientists) in order to showcase them on the global stage, connecting them with leaders from industry, funding agencies, government, and civil-society and to feature them as ambassadors of the excellence in science taking place today across Africa. NEF Global Gatherings, held every second year, will showcase 15 of Africa’s top young scientists and connect them with leaders from Africa and the rest of the world in high-profile, invitation-only forums. These leading scientists, policy-makers, business people, journalists, civil-society representatives and entrepreneurs will highlight breakthrough discoveries and catalyze scientific collaboration for human development.</div><div><br></div><div>To be held in Senegal as a 3-day event in October 2015, the NEF will touch on the three pillars of science, society and policy.</div><div><br></div><div>A main component of this three day event will be to showcase 15 of Africa’s top young scientists and social scientists connecting them with leaders from policy, industry and civil society from Africa and the rest of the world. These 15 NEF Fellows will form the first class of the NEF’s Fellows Programme.</div><div><br></div><div><b>More about the NEF Fellows Programme:</b></div><div>We are looking for the best and that’s why we launched a Call for Applications on October 31, 2014. The fellows programme is open to all Africans from around the world - including those who currently reside in the Diaspora - in all fields of science, including the social sciences and technology fields.</div><div><br></div><div>To be eligible to be a NEF Fellow, applications must:</div><div><ul><li>Be 42 years of age or less as of 31.12.2015 (Born after 1 January 1973)<br></li><li>Hold a passport from an African country <br></li><li>Have completed advanced studies in STEM or social science fields<br></li><li>Have demonstrated track record of research/findings that have impact globally <br></li><li>Be passionate about raising Africa’s profile in science and/or social science<br></li><li>Be able to clearly present their work to an audience in English or French<br></li></ul>To be selected, applicants must have: <br><ul><li>Outstanding academic qualifications, as measured by the standards of the particular academic discipline. Examples of notable achievements include:<br></li><ul><li>Publication record</li><li>Prizes and other awards, such as especially distinguished fellowships or memberships in prestigious academic circles (for example, in high-ranking committees, bodies, academies, etc.)</li><li>Independently raised funding from outside sources in a competitive process</li><li>Number of patents</li><li>The type and number of invited talks at international conferences</li></ul><li>Academic maturity and clear evidence of own research profile and direction. Examples of this include being the leader of an independent research group<br></li><li>Demonstrated commitment to improving and impacting society, notably Africa<br></li><li>Exceptional communication ability<br></li></ul></div><div>Selection will be done by a panel of eminent scientists including Nobel Laureates, and is expected to be done via in-person interviews.</div><div><br></div><div>The process will be as rigorous as the benefits great. Below are just a few benefits that come with a NEF Fellowship.
