Welcome to the online discussion group on Youth and Innovation
in Africa: Harnessing the possibilities of Africa’s youth for
the transformation of the continent.<br>

This discussion group is an initiative of the New Technologies
and Innovation Section, Special Initiatives Division of the
Economic Commission of Africa (ECA).<br>
<br>
The general aim of the online discussion is to provide a wide
range of stakeholders -civil society, policymakers, academia,
private sector, youth associations, national and international
non-government organizations- the opportunity to express
ideas, share experiences, and exchange advice on harnessing
innovation towards the transformation of African youth.<br>
<br>
The discussion will look at the following two issues in depth:<br>
<br>
Issue 1: Impediments to African youth to innovations in
science and technology.<br>
<br>
Issue 2: Creating an enabling environment for youth and
innovation in Africa.<br>
<br>
The outcome of this discussion will be synthesized into an
outcome document and presented to high level African
policymakers during the High Level Policy Dialogue on
“Science, Technologies and Innovation and the African
Transformation Agenda: Making New Technologies and Innovation
Work for Africa’s Transformation”, organised jointly by ECA
and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and
scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria in May 2014.<br>

The discussion, will commence on Monday 03, March 2014 and
will end on Sunday 30, March 2014. It will be co-moderated by
Mr. Mactar Seck (<a rel="nofollow" ymailto="mailto:mseck@uneca.org" target="_blank" href="mailto:mseck@uneca.org">mseck@uneca.org</a>) and Ms.

Bienvenue au groupe de discussion électronique sur la jeunesse
et l'innovation en Afrique: Exploiter le potentiel de la
jeunesse africaine pour la transformation du continent, une
initiative de la Section des nouvelles technologies et de
l’innovation de la Division des initiatives spéciales de la
Commission économique pour l'Afrique (CEA).<br>

Cette discussion électronique a pour but d’offrir aux parties
prenantes –membres de la société civile, décideurs de
politique, experts des milieux universitaires, membres du
secteur privé, associations de jeunes, experts des
organisation non gouvernementaux national et international-
l’occasion d’échanger des idées, de partager des expériences
et de discuter les mesures à prendre pour que l'innovation
serve à la transformation de la jeunesse africaine.<br>

À cette fin, la discussion portera en profondeur sur les deux
questions suivantes:<br>

En premier lieu: les obstacles face à la jeunesse africaine
par rapport aux innovations dans la science et la technologie.<br>
<br>
En deuxième lieu: la création d’un environnement favorable
pour la jeunesse et l'innovation en Afrique.<br>

Le résultat de cette discussion sera l’objet d’un document de
synthèse et sera présenté à des décideurs africains de haut
niveau lors du dialogue de haut niveau sur «La science, les
technologies et l'innovation et le programme de transformation
de l'Afrique: Assurer la contribution des nouvelles
technologies et l'innovation pour la transformation de
l’Afrique », un évènement conjointement organisé par la CEA et
le gouvernement fédéral du Nigeria en mai 2014 à Abuja
(Nigeria).<br>
