As Ali has alluded, there are two types of set top boxes or decoders: pay TV (aka subscription) and Free to Air ( FTA). </div>

As the names suggest, FTA decoders do not require any monthly subscription or payment while pay TV decoders are relatively cheaper but require subscribers to pay a monthly fee. Pay/subscription decoders also enable access to a bouquet of additional content.
