We have done restructuring proposals
to Cabinet before
but one needs approval to proceed. You recall the
problem we went through Telkom. We had to retrench more than 16,000
employees. There were only 400 graduates in a staff compliment of 19,000.
Posta is in even a worse situation. With a staff compliment of close to
6,000, you need in excess of 8 billion to retrench. You do not undertake
such drastic moves without political will. In my view you are being
simplistic on this issue. We shall take many years to sought out the mess
created during KPTC time.

This however is not an excuse not to do anything. There are reforms going
on albeit slowly. You will need serious support from both the executive
and parliament to implement sustainable interventions.

Regards

Ndemo.

> Hi Edith,
>
> It is interesting that you bring this up as it goes back to the key issue
> here
that we in ICT have absolutely no understanding or appreciation of
> how relevant PSK is to delivering e-commerce and until that happens the
> organisation will continue on a down hill spiral finally embedding itself
> in the ground.
>
> What is even worse is that Dr. Ndemo is even more clueless than the
> current PMG about the relevance if PSK in delivering e-commerce solutions
> which is clear from their statements about how email is replacing the
> services offered by the postal service which cannot be any further from
> the truth.
>
> I always ask, once I have ordered a pair of shoes online and made the
> payment electronically exactly how does the shoe get to me? Until 3D
> printers becoming cheaper than a DVD player there is only one answer to
> the question especially if your target market is Kenya (note: Nairobi is
> not Kenya).
>
> The
new PMG believes that the future of PSK is in payment systems a field
> that even the banks have realised "iko na wenyewe", which is why they have
> dumped all initiatives to jump in bed with the owners of money transfer
> and payment a.k.a. Safaricom.
>
> I have been watching DHL closely as they introduce an agency module for
> there services, as PSK reduces locations DHL increases theirs which begs
> the question who is the fool here?. A company called Aramex has recently
> received a huge capital injection by a Dubai based investor to develop
> their delivery network in Kenya all this while PSK management, including
> the board of which Dr. Ndemo is a member, run around trying to go into a
> field that they have neither the skill nor experience.
>
> It is my sincere hope that the rumour about UhuRuto wanting the Cabinet
> Secretaries and Principle
Secretaries should be under 50 comes to pass
> then maybe we can have a team that is open to new ideas and does more than
> regurgitate statements.
>
> I reiterate again, PSK is a sleeping giant who is being kept sedated by
> small minded players in the courier industry.
>
> Regards
>
> PS. UPS is dying because of legislative handcuffing and the same
> sedating that PSK is suffering
>
>
>
>
> Robert Yawe
> KAY System Technologies Ltd
> Phoenix House, 6th Floor
> P O Box 55806 Nairobi, 00200
> Kenya
>
>
> Tel: +254722511225, +254202010696
>
>
> ________________________________
> From: Edith Adera <eadera@idrc.ca>
> To: <a ymailto="mailto:robertyawe@yahoo.co.uk"
