Using a .ke or a .co.ke is a choice that should not be treated trivially. The .com suffix was meant to indicate that the site is a commercial site wasn't it? The cost of buying a .co.ke domain is trivial in the grand scheme of things what with the billions spent in campaigns. This just goes to show the advisors figure a website is a website and nothing more. if a .biz domain happened to be cheaper they would probably have bought and used it.

There are however bigger fish to fry and more important problems for them than feeling kenyan on the internet.

On Mon, Dec 31, 2012 at 2:38 PM, Muchiri Nyaggah <muchiri@semacraft.com> wrote:
You will find that other than Martha Karua's site, .co.ke domains exist for the other sites, though it isn't clear if it is domain squatting (the Raila one is clear domain squatting).

When choosing a domain name, it's often prudent to buy alternative spellings and also common misspellings. Good examples are gogle.com and facbook.com. For large corporates, it becomes costly, since you have to buy domains in as many countries as you can. ie apple.com, apple.co.ke and apple.co.ug
Quite pathetic that aspiring presidential candidates can opts for .com
domain rather than a .ke. If as a president you cannot buy Kenya and
promote the local brand, who will?

We need to emulate the pride of Deutsches, who have the second biggest
TLD in the world .de, rivalled only by .com. Surprisingly one of these
presidential candidates spent a considerable amount of time in
Deutscheland yet he has not borrowed those ideals and replicated them
in Kenya.

teamuhuru.co.ke is the only candidate who scores 100% on this metric.

Yes, "Brand Kenya" is now a campaign issue.
