class=gmail_quote>Mr Kibati, have you been on Kenyatta Avenue of late? I bet
you probably never find your way to Luthuli Avenue. I dont think it matters
who the roads are under, but this is basically an indication of the kind of
mediocrity that you must deal with if you will have any hopes of delivering
on vision 2030. From shoddy jobs, to shoddy organization. The road between
Embassy Roundabout and Museum Hill ( I am not sure if its called Kipande
Road) was built less than 15 years ago. Today there is no road there worth
talking about. Thats how we do our things. Short term solutions where we
should be overhauling the entire system. I am sure right now someone is
working on an RFP for that particular road.<BR><BR>Kenya, and Nairobi in
particular, needs to have a complete overhaul of everything. We need to plan
this city afresh, from square 1. Then we must come up with a plan for the
next 100 years. The big infrastructure projects going on will help a lot in
developing the economy, but what will that mean for the peasant who cant get
adequate medical care when they are sick? Will our people die of hunger
again next year if rains fail? Are we waiting for that to happen so that we
can have yet another mega fund raiser on M-Pesa? Everything is just
ridiculous if you think about it.<BR><BR>Your biggest fight is one against
this one evil. Nature does not tolerate mediocrity!<BR><BR><BR>

<DIV>Been following this discussion and would just like to make a
couple of comments:</DIV>
<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV>1) The roads authorities were created to ensure specific
allocation of responsibility which lacked in the past. So Eng. Kidenda
as CEO of the Kenya National Highways Authority can be held
responsible for the highways and trunk roads but not the urban roads
which are squarely the responsibility of the Kenya Urban Roads
Authority.</DIV>
<DIV><BR></DIV>
<DIV>2) We have a great deal yet to do. As one of you intimated, some
of what we are doing ought to have been done on the 60s and while that
may be true, we still have to do it today if we didn't do it then.
This even as we simultaneously move to the next level. The challenges
raised by listers here are precisely what we need to raise the
bar!</DIV>

<DIV>Overall I think Mr Gaitho is right. Kenya is a very
advanced country in many respects but the poor roads are an
enigma. One does not need to go far. I was impressed with the
roads in Addis Ababa. Someone told me that the Addis-Moyale road
is tarmacked smooth while the Nairobi-Moyale one, which is
shorter, is not.</DIV>
<DIV>One factual correction though, The Kenya Rural Roads
