I understand, from comments made by Eng. Lugga to the press, that S. Sudan has already applied for .SS. Is there a "clause" in ISO rules or IANA that might prevent them from awarding .SS South Sudan perhaps based on "public interest" or any other excuse or are we likely to see .ss domains soon? Thanks to history!<br><br>Nonetheless, for those of us who might not have been there at the time Kenya acquired its code: could there be any in our midst who knows "why 254"? I know it is NOT the prerogative of a country to choose a code. But in the same vein, I am aware it is not prohibited for countries to request. Word has it "292" had been earmarked for us (after Eritrea - "291")!<br><br>On receiving this information, a Ugandan friend remarked: "You mean such 'pretty' numbers existed ........ better TZ's '255'"! No wonder US/North America 'picked' "1", and Great Britain "44"! Can someone enlighten me

Dr. Ochuodho,<br><br>Congratulations are perfectly in order! Last evening, while attending to one of my "Juakalis" I got that info and was very delighted. What thrills me is the sacrifice some of you visioners have made to make some of these things work. As important as the symbolism of the code numbers assigned are, I am alive to the tribulations that the technical people and the kind of capacity building processes required to make this a reality. I am yet to see an Engineer and IT geek that is so committed, yet humble to work behind the scenes in difficult conditions to achieve results <span style="font-style:italic;">timely </span>as you have! Congratulations again my senior for guiding this process! I do not want to believe that you did all this simply because they are your Luo brothers :)...As the commentator said, the code issue may look like a small
things but to me as a communications facilitator, I very well understand what it takes/means to be shut out of Gateway-God forbid if such a thing was to happen. Anyhow, my understanding is that in about a month we should be able to permanently divorced from the 249!<br>
<br>That gets me to wonder, how do we as Kenyans, recognize our heros? For me, this is a case I want to put to the NVK-M (at least the Juba Caucus) for consideration.<br><br>Stay well bro, and God be with the Republic of South Sudan<br>
