<p>Public Sector appointments MUST be on MERIT. Period. Accepting other avenues such as "Political Appointment" is a sad commentary on our state of affairs given that this list is for the enlightened and intellectuals. If indeed such appointments exist they must be condemned. Those saying that appointments exist that�are best described as "Political" rather than "Meritorious" should indicate whether or not they believe in or are resigned to such appointments. This is an advocacy list, right? Advocacy is about reaching for an ideal and not accepting what you do not believe in.�It goes beyond just observing what is going on. Does it make sense to be trying to "digitize" our society if in the background that society is not a Meritocracy?</p><p>In Kenya, political affiliation is generally tribal-based. This axiomatically elevates the term "Political Appointment" to the realm of euphemism...... And this further creates the social instability we are aware of during election time, as this is the time for each community to position itself, through utra-Machiavellian means where necessary, �to "eat" through "political appointments".�Not committing ourselves to�merit�can only leave us with a "Mediocracy"�compounded by brain-drain (as our top brains get disillutioned) and, at worst, social instability/war. Let us build Kenya by promoting those ideas that build us and not�resigning ourselves to�compromises.
