<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><I><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Kakamega, January 19, 2007</FONT></I><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"> - United States Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Pamela Slutz joined Kenyan government and university officials on January 19 to officially launch a new joint venture between G7 Systems of Tampa, Florida and the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Kakamega. This innovative new business, called G7 Systems Kenya Ltd., has hired 30 Kenyan engineers to provide Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services to G7's global clients, which include a number of Fortune 500 corporations in the United States. G7 Kenya's engineers will provide customized computer programming services to customers over the internet using a satellite uplink in the University's Science and Technology Park. If the company succeeds and expands, it could eventually employ up to 800 Kenyan staff, providing a major boost to the local economy in Kakamega. <

<P><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">As Ms. Slutz pointed out in her remarks, delivered on behalf of U.S. Ambassador Michael E. Ranneberger, the venture also proves that Kenya can use the advantages of its well-educated, English-speaking citizenry to compete and prosper in the global economy. "Far from fearing globalization, Kenya can and should embrace it…by tapping into the vast potential of its educated workforce and by linking that talent to the rest of the world through digital technologies." She praised Kenyan Government plans to improve the infrastructure and the regulatory environment in the information and communications sectors. These efforts, she said, are pivotal to the success of companies like G7 Systems and to catalyzing economic development and reducing poverty in Kenya. </FONT></SPAN></P>
