I have a feeling this might make it to the Evidence Act since they're
looking to revise the entire law on evidence.

Agreed. The consent and knowledge requirement is abit redundant because
then you'll never catch anyone willingly implicating themselves. Some
countries allow such evidence if one of the parties knew and consented to
the tapping which helps undercover operations.

The only problem with this is the precedent it sets. First it will be
economic crimes. Then just any other crime. After that, any suspicious
 situation.
