Dear all,
As some people try to paint uber as bad please remember that
• They have created 10,000 small business owners in Kenya.
• Uber collects 25% of the revenue, the small business owners collect 75%. Are the small business paying their Tax component?
• The digital disruption they have brought has enabled Kenyans to enjoy cheaper public transport.
• They have started to bring order to the public transport system.
o “He said KRA is up to 50 per cent happy on how Uber have paid taxes saying the company is a visible taxpayer unlike conventional taxis, which are difficult to trace for payment of taxes.”
o “We will be able to follow tax compliance with automated business models like Uber,”

Best Regards,

Alex

Subject: [kictanet] MPs question Uber's 'small' Sh30 million tax payment inthree years

Dear Listers,
Parliament has questioned the small amount of tax paid by app-hailing taxi firm Uber, suggesting that the bulk of the profits is repatriated outside the country. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) told MPs Tuesday that Uber had paid Sh30 million in taxes since 2014.

Just how much do companies such as Uber, Google, Facebook, Twitter etc. make from Kenya, and how much do they remit in taxes locally?
