If i may weigh in i would like to agree with Muthoni's sentiments in
addition to the following comments.

1. There is great value in encouraging local businesses to go online
using the local TLD extension. Obviously if we get more Kenyans on the
.KE platform, there will be greater faith in the local online industry
something akin to what MPESA has done to the local mobile money
industry.
2. IMHO embracing the local extension will also promote local content.
I dont have a scientific way to correlate the two but i sense netizens
will be encouraged to put more local content online if they have a .KE
address as opposed to a gtld. I also sense that with more local
content online we are likely to keep internet traffic local by
utilising our IXP's (peering) which might result in further reduction
of the cost of the internet and better speeds for all users.
3. I see nothing strange with the move in Tanzania. There is a target
for .KE in the National Strategy even though the wording might not be
as written by TCRA. Be that as it may, it is worth noting that TCRA
has an interest in .TZ and i am sure they are looking at ways for
growing it and making it more sustainable. Let us leave it to the
market to determine whether this decisions are right.
4. As stakeholders, we need to promote the value of being online to
our businesses beyond social media interactions. A great employment
opportunity abounds for Kenyan Businesses online which we should tap
into.
