Today we to move to Day2a (HumanCapital feedback) and Day 2b (Infrastructure feedback to be sent in next email) Summary feedback on Human Capital wasas follows with detailed document attached. a) 41% of the respondents felt that the government hadprovided sufficient ICT opportunities for the youth to a moderate extent. 30%however felt youth opportunities had not been effectively provided, while 27%felt it had been done to a large extent. How far is this the mandate of the Government?
- ICT Labour force projections; then building capacity backwards
Some areas that may betapped into;- Private sector in capacity building of their staff- Personal initiatives to advance in ICT skills- Community resource centresb) 58% of therespondents felt that the DLP (Laptop Project) will have a positive impact to avery large extent. 30% felt it would be a moderate impact while 12% think itwill have little or no impact. There is a lot of positiveness - Keeping in mind that the laptop is not the education and that learnershave different abilitiesc) 40% of therespondents felt that tertiary institutions were, to a moderate extentproviding the requisite skill set for the ICT industry. 34% felt they were to alarge extent providing these skills while 24% felt they were not.ICT skills to many is still at the word, excel tutorials – so as to handin typed out assignments- The tertiary institutions should be able to lift the level of learningfor all learners beyond thisd) 40% of therespondents felt that Konza City will have a positive impact to a very largeextent. 21% felt it will be a moderate impact while 25% think it will have noimpact.- Replicationacross the country- Lift one to theremote areas of Kenya; open up- CountyGovernment can take on such as their own long term initiative; investoropportunities, local jobse) Providegeneral ICT literacy programmes to the public, Coding as a skill to allstudents – irrespective of discipline, Continuity in government offices (ratherthan sabotage of previous holder initiatives), Improve Academia-Government-Industry linkages, Cryptography training, Identify and supportTechnology Universities, Promote Incubation Center, Have mechanisms to weed outICT quacks, Provide ICT scholarships, Standardize ICT Trainings, Digitizationof key services - police occurrence books, land registries should be availed tothe youth.Toa maoni (let hear your reactions) walu.
