This was informed by the continued feedback  received from the community on
the need to understand the process better. The webinar attracted a total of
53 participants. This further underscores the importance of this topic. The
participants were privileged to have David Olive  (Vice President, Policy
Development Support; General Manager, ICANN Regional
Headquarters –Istanbul) give introductory remarks during the session and
truly appreciate the support of our the invited speakers who made the
session quite a success.



The substance of the session was Danielle’s presentation, which gave an
overview of registrar accreditation process from benefits, considerations,
application overview as well as fees required. Aysegul gave a summary of
the RA Requirements of Registry Operators Pertaining to Registrars.



As expected, the session generated pertinent questions that both current
ICANN registrars as well as potential applicants in Africa have always
asked, the question of the USD 500K CGL insurance requirement.
Danielle clarified that while the insurance requirement has not changed as
of now, it was the basis of the recently closed Public Comment Sought
<https://www.icann.org/public-comments/raa-insurance-2015-01-15-en> on
*Potential
Change to Registrar Accreditation Insurance Requirement for underserved
regions*.Other concerns were on the fluctuating dollar rates on fees
especially in local currency. Overall, this webinar was critical in helping
clarify questions and concerns from registrars directly by the GDD team.
The community also got direct contacts of the relevant staff for further
questions in future. It was recommended that we consider holding monthly
webinars on such technical issues affecting registrars.
