[kictanet] Fwd: Digital Migration - Set Top Box Ownership

Listers,

I think this is impressive given all the confusion there has been including the warning by the big 3 to people not to buy.

Also if you think about cell phone adoption, it took time. Ditto, Mpesa.

These figures will only rise.

Interesting angle is how advertisers will now allocate their money.

Ipsos Synovate has been the guide for ad spend.

Regards

JG

I concur with Washington.
Now that analogue is off we should see an increase in set top box uptake

On the ground, I have enough people I know who are asking about which decoder they should buy. I don't know about the sales going up, but I can bet they will, if my experience with these people serves as a reflection elswhere in the republic.

Wash,

But it’s already 11th hour…or do you think the sales have gone up drastically last one week?

It's not that Kenyans have better things to buy with money, but:

1. The Digital Migration has been impeded by vuta-nikuvute, and Kenyans love that too as it buys them time:)
2. Kenyans like doing things on the 11th hour:)

Me thinks.

In Summary.
35% of TV owners own a setbox.
Of that 35%, GOtv 37%, Startimes 23%, DStv 20%, Zuku 16%, Independent STBs 5%=Total 101%

It seems Kenyans have better things to do with their money than buy STBs.
