Dear,

INVITATION TO AN
INTERNET AND HUMAN RIGHTSSTAKEHOLDERS’ BREAKFAST ROUND TABLE MEETING ON 24TH
APRIL, 2014 AT THE FAIRMONT NORFOLK HOTEL, NAIROBI

The Kenya Human Rights
Commission (KHRC), isa non-governmental organization (NGO)founded in 1991 to
entrench democratic principles and respect for human rights. KHRC’s envisions human rights states and societies, a
vision driven by the mission offostering
human rights, democratic values, human dignity and social justice.

KHRC,in partnership
with other civil society organizations, has been working on a number of
informational rights including freedom of expression, access to information,
right to privacy and freedom of association as provided by the Constitution of
Kenya 2010. In the digital era, KHRC has extended this work to promote and
protect these rights and freedoms as experienced offline to be enjoyed online.

In 2013, in line with
this KHRC undertook a survey of the internet legislative and policy landscape
in Kenya and found that while Kenya’s ICT sector is growing as key driver of
the economy, the sector can be improved with better policies and legislation
specific to the sector.

For this reason, the
KHRC and its implementing partner
the Kenya ICT Action Network (KICTANet) have the pleasure of inviting you to a
breakfast roundtable on Internet and Human Rights on April 24, 2014 at 8.00am the Fairmont Norfolk Hotel, Nairobi.Taking
cognizance that the government recently undertook to invite public
participation in the Cyber Security Strategy 2014, the roundtable is to sustain dialogue
of a partnership between the state and non-state actors as stakeholders. It
will aim to:

·
Build
understanding of the legislative and policy
environment in Kenya, including concerns about current debates about
cybersecurity and cybercrime and their effect on human rights;

·
Explore
the value of a multi-stakeholder approach in internet
policy making and how it could be institutionalised in Kenya.

Your attendance as a stakeholder will be highly appreciated as this will enrich the dialogue in informational rights Kenya.Kindly confirm your participation with Berly Aidi on baidi at khrc.or.ke
> We hope to see you on Thursday

Yours faithfully,

Atsango Chesoni
