Robert Yawe's Double-Speak

Dear Robert,

I see you senselessly call Cofek a "monster" thanks >>>(The Ministry seems
to have acquired a set of the proverbial "balls" (need to be gender
sensitive) and heeded my advice that the we where creating a monster that
will end up needing slaying at some time and the time seems to be now).<<<
We will be happy to defend ourselves if you offered us the right of reply.
We are a very patient lot and we accept all manner of throwing mud (punches)
at us but some are really too provocative to meet our restraint thresholds.

When you sought our (Cofek read "monster's") intervention, on June 11, for
your application for Post Master General position whose advertisement you
called "skewed" as per your email below (which we dutifully did as per a
letter we can't circulate here - were we still monsters? Were you even a
Cofek member? Did you even bother to check whether or not we "represent" you
as I've seen most listers query out of ignorance of the provisions of
Societies Act Cap 108. Or are we only "monsters" when your interests and
ours do not converge?

I would like to caution you and other loud "egg sellers", like yourself,
that ought to refrain from starting unnecessary "fights in the market
place". Is it not double-speak? Otherwise we welcome being scrutinized, both
as a Federation and individual elected officials (elected by the bonafide
membership).

Kind regards,

Stephen Mutoro

This is an enquiry e-mail via http://www.cofek.co.ke/ from:

Robert Yawe <robertyawe at yahoo.co.uk>

Hi,

As an applicant in the recently advertised post of Post Master General for
the Postal Corporation of Kenya I would like to bring to your attention a
skewing of the requirements to favour the acting PMG.

See the advisement on http://www.posta.co.ke/JobDetails.asp?ID=48
<http://www.posta.co.ke/JobDetails.asp?ID=48&Title=Postmaster%20General%20(C
hief%20Executive%20Officer)>
&Title=Postmaster%20General%20(Chief%20Executive%20Officer)

A note the following line for the words "postal optimization" an expertise
that can only be acquired as an employee of PCK.

Have a proven track record of innovation, transformation and postal
optimization, combined with an appreciation of the intrinsic importance of
technology in solution development and design.

Regards

Hi,

The Ministry seems to have acquired a set of the proverbial "balls" (need to
be gender sensitive) and heeded my advice that the we where creating a
monster that will end up needing slaying at some time and the time seems to
be now.

Information PS Bitange Ndemo, who has been pushing for immediate migration
and sits on the CCK board, has already ruled out the possibility of
negotiating with Cofek alone.

"The constitution dictates that we consult with stakeholders. We cannot
therefore have talks with Cofek which has non elected officials. We shall
however have consultations with all stakeholders. If we continue to give
latitude to Cofek, we shall one time regret because in my view they will
take up on everything," Ndemo wrote on The Kenya ICT Action Network platform
on January 13. The standstill might see the negotiation window close, which
will leave the fate of Tv consumers to the court".

Seems they are out to take maximum advantage of a dissolved parliament and
the fact that all eyes are currently on the election, the shutting down of
Citizen Tv transmitters being another sign of things to haven over the next
3 weeks.

Dr. Ndemo, I believe the fact that there are 2 digital signal transmitters
already operational that the analog frequency holders are in contravention
of some law therefore CCK should proceed to turn off their transmitters.

Negotiations between Communications Commission of Kenya and Consumer
Federation, aimed at agreeing on a suitable date to switch off analogue Tv
transmission, failed to take off after fresh disagreements arose between the
two parties.
Cofek yesterday snubbed a meeting between it and CCK citing involvement of
outside parties contrary to court orders. In a ruling on January 11, High
Court judge Isaac Lenaola directed the CCK and the consumer lobby group to
negotiate on an agreeable new date, saying the initial December 31 date was
untimely and improper.

CCK is in support of involving all industry stakeholders like broadcasters,
government, other consumer lobby groups, the Digital secretariat ans vendors
in the new date deliberations. However, Cofek said it should be the only
party to negotiate with CCK since it was the only one that sought legal
action.
