[kictanet] Internet - Slow

Dear all,

Another element that might be contributing to the perceived slow internet
speeds are the frequent outages at KIXP due to power problems.

Apparently the exchange point has been having serious power related
problems that have resulted in extended downtimes. This was brought to my
attention by one of Kenya's largest carriers - apparently they were asking
me if there was any way I could help out of frustration that nothing was
being done about the problem.

At this point I will shamelessly plug this blog piece about KIXP
independence from TESPOK
http://mashilingi.blogspot.com/2012/04/which-way-for-kenya-internet-exchange.html

It seems that the current structure is actually acting as a barrier which
is preventing the IXP from being relocated to better infrastructure in one
of the many data centers we have around the city (as was suggested by the
member who raised the issue to me).

Best regards,

Brian
