[kictanet] Konza Techno Park Launch?

Bwana Ndemo,

Thanks for the update and reassurance that Konza is NOT a "pipe dream". I like that level of confidence and you have indeed proved yourself - and your team - in the past (TEAMS etc).

Two Questions:

1. What is defined as local participation? What are you expecting to be done to realize this? what are the current bottlenecks? (these set of questions reminds me of my talk this week with one of the commissioners at CIC when I was registering my concern about the lack of engagement of ordinary Kenya's in reviewing bills going to parliament via CIC....the commissioner agreed with my analysis and indeed confirmed that ...ordinary Kenyans have no crystal clear mechanisms of engagement, no framework in place to provide submissions and take-up the citizen voices in the legislative processes (apart from placing adverts in local dailies & visiting counties)..... we are literally "spectators" of legislative processes in this country.

Bwana Ndemo, might you be facing the same dilemma with this "local participation" expected in Konza?

2. Being part of Vision2030 projects, I would imagine that your chief guest is eagerly awaiting the launch and groundbreaking knowing the passions for V2030. Should we expect that the Director of Physical Planning will approve the plans this month as you indicate and that this issue will not continue to be a bottleneck?

I vote for the idea of a progress tracking tool for KONZA which should be managed by V2030 in Collaboration with your Ministry (KICTB) - where it's can we have that in place soonest?

Edith

Edith,
Thanks for asking. Konza has never been and will never be a pipe dream.
We are progressing well. We have the Master Planner in place. We had a small problem with physical planning with respect to approvals as per the physical planning act. These requiirements will be met by the end of the month. We also have Konza Authority in place. You need the institutional framework in place to ensure succession planning. We have several partners who we are at different stages of partnerships. God willing we should break ground next month. This is dependent on the schedule of our guest of honour.

I am more optimistic now that the project will be a reality but as usual local participation lags behind. This has always been our culture. We'd rather wait and complain that we were left out than be trail blazers.
Nevertheless, we shall succeed with the few who have expressed interest.

Ndemo.
