@Wash,

I hear you, I would just like to fully understand what might have gone so
wrong that Google's spokesperson chose to take responsibility, apologise
and offer 'further investigation'

Obviously, till then all we have is speculation - nevertheless I feel that
it would be inappropriate for myself or anyone else to condemn or exonerate
Google until more info is available about exactly what happened. As Magdali
put it: "who knew "or should have known" what was going on....
