Listers,
I echo Peres' observations that the government outsourcing; Marketing
(Locally and Internationally) are key components in getting the sector
re-invigorated. There is still appetite internationally to outsource to
Kenya, and increasingly local companies are beginning to see the sense in
outsourcing non-critical services to local BPO players. Local organizations
need to be incentivized to outsource more, which in turn will have a
knock-on effect in stimulating growth, building capacity, creating internal
efficiencies, etc in the sector.
Best Regards,
Edwin

Its great that the govt is looking at outsourcing some of its processes.
This will go a long way in building the local BPO sector.
However while building capacity let us continue to market the sector. The
marketing that was done over the past 5 years is now beginning to yield
fruit. Some big name international players plan to either set up in Kenya
or outsource to Kenya.
These companies would also help to build capacity through skills transfer by
partnering with local BPOs in Joint Ventures. It shortens the learning
curve.
