[kictanet] Kictanet alive.. kickin, or kicked into the dustbin...!

Hi Brian,
On the issue of funding it is unfortunate that we keep confirming Dr. Ndemo's position that all we do is "nataka serikali . . .".
At the height of the Konza debate I personally proposed that we rally funds together to fund a town hall meeting and also to pay professional producers to capture the discussions both for posterity and to share with those from around the country and the world who could not be present physically.
The funding did not take off but the session took place after a donor come forward, unfortunately the volunteers who did the recording of the session misplaced the tape and so the discussion only benefited those who attended.
We need to become our own NGO and learn to give where no monetary return is expected, tithing does not count as for most of us it is "planting". The benefit of being able to fund our own activities is that we can remain independent in thought and action.
Brian, I fully agree with you that we need to develop local funding channels beginning with ourselves but also as we do this lets please apply the technology we are always yapping about and make sure that any such "face to face" gathering will be accessible to all irrespective of where they might be across the world. It was annoying to see the level of disconnect at Connected Kenya, but it was at least a beginning to have the stream.
So that this issue does not turn to be another talk shop that will give Dr. Ndemo more ammunition to thrush us (has he received the white paper from Michael's committee that was formed at #140Friday?) can Liko of Pesapal please set-up an account for the fund and give us the details so we can put our money where our mouths are as relates to funding.

If we go back to early discussions about the multi-stakeholder network known as KICTAnet I recall there being a distinction between the mailing list participants, and those stakeholders who would actively engage in KICTAnet "activities".
My take is that since there have been no "activities" as such - the feeling is that KICTAnet has "kicked" to borrow a phrase from @Harry.
I remember there used to be monthly face-to-face meetings which followed a particular topic or theme of interest and served as an opportunity for participants from the various networks to meet within the context of the "network of networks". At the time there was program funding from donor to cover costs of those meetings, this has presumably, run out. Which leads me to ask, can we mobilise funds locally? At least for these gatherings? As they will give a greater element of traction to the organization while ensuring that it continues to remain relevant within the sector. Especially as the melting pot for policy debate.
Best regards,
Brian
