Dear Aki,
Many thanks for your response, looking forwad to your resourcefullness as we
carry on with the discussion in the next ten days on the KICTANET List, the
proceedings will also be shared on skunkworks, with regard to the question
on KeNIC , i might not be in a position of authority to respond but i would
like to inform you that a presentation on the new look KeNIC website was
made at the AGM last week. It was interesting to note that as registrars we
will now be able to transact with the registry through our mobile phones
which is a major step, i hope Paul Musee or David from KeNIC will respond to
you fully. I am sure other Participants at the meeting like Mwendwa Kivuva
can also bring out another angle to this.
On Cloud Computing we have scheduled a day to discuss the issue
comprehensively, with regard to whether the government has made it mandatory
to store electronic records at a location beyond their premises, i dont
think this is the case since i havent seen a component of disaster recovery
planning embedded in the National ICT policy, your question brings out the
need for a comprehensive disaster recovery Master Plan, i hope PS Ndemo or
any lister who may be in the know could bring us upto speed with the current
state of affairs.
With regard to your question on broadband, we will also have a fullday to
discuss broadband related issues. It is worth mentioning that earlier this
year a lister (I think Harry Delano) wrote about the need for a National
Broad Band Policy similar to what the FCC had come up with in the United
States, i am not very sure whether Kenya will have a unique 4G/LTE scenario,
i am confident there are listers in the know who will share. I saw 4G/LTE
being tested in Vilnius Lithuania during the last IGF, the more reason
listers are encouraged to register for the forthcoming IGF since it serves
as an important platform for knowledge exchange.
Best Regards
