I've faced this problem too, but in my case I found it occurred when I was
subscribed to the SMS go crazy product. However I believe this is just one
small example of the many billing quirks I've experienced with my Safaricom
prepaid line. Just today, I experienced an irrational drawdowns in airtime
and in the middle of writing a complaint, the airtime was magically
restored.
I think that if Safaricom provided electronic billing statements for prepaid
lines (like those offered for postpaid lines), it would go a long way in
assuaging its customers that they are not being ripped off. I hope someone
at Safaricom is reading this because this is long overdue.

Think this happens when your edge/3G/GPRS is on, all you need to do is
disconnect from it and you will be able to utilize all the credit you
have untill 0.00.
