[kictanet] Yawe for Post Master General

Hi,

The writing is on the wall, Postal Corporation needs a new breed of leadership
failing which is shall sink to the level of Kenya National Assurance, point of
no return

Issues of unions and pensions can be resolved by leveraging its advantages such
as a national presence. We need dynamic future looking leadership that as an
appreciation of the changes taking place locally and by extension globally.

It was sad to hear an employee of PCK saying that she earns Ksh 14,000/- after
working for over 20 years for the corporation, does PCK really have a human
resource head, chief or manager? What was more telling was the brand new PCK
vehicles that where packed behind the striking workers. This is a clear
indication that the leadership at PCK has no clue as to what a gold mine they
are literally sitting on.

Based on the inflation index for Nairobi and the UNDP report on employment an
employee with a family living in Nairobi and earning less than 30,000/- per
month is termed as poor. PCK is impoverishing its employees by keeping them
employed.

We seriously need to look at converting certain jobs from permanent to part-time
which would allow us to provide opportunities for our university students who
spend their evenings on facebook. This will be a great opportunity to
re-establish the work ethic in the next generation.

I wish NTV reporters could begin to do their homework before making alarming
statements that PCK is in trouble as a result of the proliferation of email and
the internet. I will ask again, after you have ordered your pair of shoes
online can it be delivered to you electronically?

Post Corporation of Kenya is not dead, it is sedated its slumber is being
externally imposed and it is time that I was given the opportunity to raise it
to its true glory, but as long as this nation is run on mediocre concepts and
crony rewarding systems mine shall remain, for now, a cry in the wilderness.

Regards

Life is not a zero sum game, for you to gain I do not need to lose.

Dr. Ndemo, you are right that we are overdue for comprehensive reforms when it
comes to how we run and manage our parastatals.

However, I think that is exactly the kind of change that Yawe is proposing to
bring about. I'm delighted that someone like Yawe who obviously has extensive
experience in converging ICT with business, can be bold enough to stand up and
say I can do it. Barack Obama in his book Dreams of My Father spoke about how
leaders seeking the highest elective office must have an outsized ego. They must
believe that they can do something better than everyone else, even if that
something seems impossible. With Yawe, I can personally say that he has the
brains, skills, motivation and ego to meet the challenges of being the
post-master general.

Look forward to your appointment Yawe.

With Kind Regards,
Harry Karanja

Jane,
You are right to some extent. Ministries do not have unlimited power over
their parastatals. You recall as Hon. Michuki cleaned the Transport
ministry, the Ports Authority was at the verge of collapse. There are
intricacies in the running of state corporations that you are not aware
of. They are managed by many agencies such as the State Corporations
Advisory Council, Inspector General of State Corporations and not
forgetting the unions. It is not as simple as you think. Several
variables affect the way they operate. Comprehensive reforms may be
necessary.

Ndemo.
