[kictanet] Kenya: Consumers furious over high internet prices

Fully agree with Bill about the hate speech and .... but also agree with
Alex Gakuru on this one - that we consumers are unhappy with high prices!

First it was our (Kenyan) corruption (nepotism and tribalism) that run
down Telkom Kenya. In 2003 an employee with a multinational.org which
supplied some technology to Telkom Kenya told me how surprised some bank
was at the cash Telkom Kenya started banking in early 2003. It may not
have been enough to run the organization but was much more than was
being banked prior to this. We have had to bring in France Telecom
(Orange) to clean up our mess because our tribal ways / politics did not
allow us to deal with (purge) the impunity at Telkom Kenya ... which
included a bloated workforce comprised of many unqualified villagers ..

Vodafone had to bribe (Mobitelea) to set up Safaricom Ltd. Maybe that is
why those who could afford it had to pay 100K (almost USD 2,0000.00
then) to get a mobile line. Some frequencies we need for more affordable
connectivity are still held up by whoever or whatever - CCK needs to
clarify and is probably rectifying.

What the likes of Vodafone and Orange do is to look at our previous
(mis)management to feel content with themselves. It is sort of like how
our Founding Fathers inherited a colonial system that mistreated
(undermined) Africans and committed other crimes they viewed as less
evil than colonialism. An elderly Kikuyu driver once told me (while
showing me some parts of Nairobi that colonials kept out of bounds for
Africans told me) it is better to be poor and free than colonized. Those
of us who want to be re-colonized can always and usually do migrate to
the West where they continue to bad mouth anything and everything African.

As for us Kenyan Private Sector Patriots, we are going to demand the
kind of (efficient and affordable) services that Expats also offer to or
demand from their fellow country or kinsmen and local employees. Nothing
more nothing less. They can be worth more to Africa than African
emigrants and looters who are building up foreign nations (economies)
for their own personal gain.

>> Tribalism is being fuelled by racist and arrogant people like Michael Joseph and if its hard to see how Michael Joseph who in January was just waxing lyrical how much we will save on Fibre Optics is now arrogant to teh core then we need to review our stakes.

>> We dont need such cheap arrogance and Michael Joseph must be told so. How can you unilaterally decide without involving shareholders that tehy must get money through Mpesa? How can you just see Kenyans as people who eat and do nothing for the company while they gave yuo teh capital to expand?
>>
>> Lets be realistic here. this is arrogance and impunity to teh core and we must face it headon. Alex, ukitaka backup you got me. We will continue highlighting this until it sinks in the head of everybody taht we have Hyenas masquerading as mother Teresa
