ANNOUNCEMENT OF FIFTH ROUND OF INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAM (IFP)
The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP) is pleased to
announce the Fifth round of fellowships in Kenya for the Academic Year
2007/2008. During this round, the program will offer forty-seven (47)
fellowships in East Africa tenable in any part of the world, including
Africa. Sixteen Fellowships will be offered to applicants in Kenya. Each
fellowship covers tuition fees, health insurance, subsistence allowance,
travel and other related expenses.
IFP will provide full support of up to three (3) years of formal post-
graduate study. The program provides opportunities to individuals from
diverse backgrounds, social groups and communities that have traditionally
lacked systematic access to higher education. Fellows are selected on the
strength of their academic achievement, leadership skills and social
commitment.
Fellows are expected to use their education to enhance their leadership
skills in fields that further the Ford Foundation’s goals of strengthening
democratic values, reducing poverty and injustice, promoting international
cooperation and advancing human achievement.
Eligibility Criteria
a.. Be resident citizen or official resident of Kenya.
b.. Hold an Honors Bachelor’s degree to apply for a Master’s fellowship
and a Master’s degree for a Ph.D.
c.. Have demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to community
service and/or national development.
d.. Have significant relevant professional or other work experience
related to proposed field of study, of not less than three (3) years.
e.. Intend to pursue a post-graduate degree that will directly enhance
his/ her leadership and professional knowledge in a practical, policy,
academic or artistic discipline.
f.. Present a plan specifying how he/ she will apply studies to social
problems in his/ her own country.
g.. Demonstrate commitment to return home to work on these issues in the
post-fellowship period.
Doctoral candidates MUST provide a concept paper of up to three pages (3) on
their intended research (details are provided on the application form).
Note:
Priority will be given to People living & working outside the major cities.
Women and persons with disabilities are also encouraged to apply.
Applicants do not need to have university admission to be eligible for this
fellowship competition.

Application forms may be downloaded from www.ifpeastafrica.org or collected
from the respective country offices.
Completed forms (in hard copy) and all the supporting documentation should
be received at the IFP Kenya office not later than 4:00pm on Wednesday 1st
March, 2006. Applications received through fax and email will not be
accepted. Incomplete and late applications will NOT be considered. Only
short listed applicants will be contacted.
