Position Description



Regional Coordinator for Sub Saharan Africa


Reports to:                   The Director of Programs & Partnerships



Supervises:                  n/a



Major Function: As a full time member of the IPM staff, the Regional
Coordinator for Sub Saharan Africa supports the Director of Programs and
Partnerships in all aspects of IPM’s relationship with potential, existing
and past Project Partners, and like-minded organizations throughout the
region.



Qualifications:             Fluency in English, Swahili; preferably also
French or Portuguese. Extensive travel a required.



Duties of the Regional Coordinator for Sub Saharan Africa include, but are
not limited to:



1.   Project Administration, Evaluation & Replication

  1.. Receives and responds to phone, mail, and e-mail inquiries from local
Project Partners
b.       Identifies potential Project Partners who fit the guidelines and
goals set forth by IPM

c.       Works with successful Project Partners to serve as models for
future Project Partners

d.       Evaluate projects bi-annually and develop strategies and timelines
for increasing Project success

e.       Develops replication models and strategies with existing and
potential Project Partners



2.   Technical Assistance & Training

a.       Provides regular training to local Project Partners in community
mobilization, program planning, and organizational development

b.       Creates and delivers technical assistance & training workshops
seminars addressing the expressed assets and needs of IPM’s local partners,
including the production of related manuals

c.       Supports technical assistance & training opportunities for other
like-minded, regional partners as able and always consistent with IPM’s
mission

d.       Works alongside Project Partners to develop earned income
strategies



3.   Community Outreach

a.       Cultivates community-based, governmental and non-governmental
organizations for partnership

b.       Engages the local philanthropic community in the mission of IPM

c.       Represents IPM regional meetings of like-minded organizations and
networks as appropriate

d.       Identifies “high profile” opportunities for IPM to engage the local
community

e.       Secures external funding for IPM’s Regional Office in conjunction
with the Headquarters staff



4.       International Partnership Facilitation

a.       Staffs IPM’s local Advisory Council

b.       Prepares meeting itineraries for IPM’s  headquarters staff during
their regional visits

c.       Coordinates and host delegations from throughout the IPM Family

d.       Welcomes IPM partners to the Region and facilitates their visits as
appropriate

e.       Participates in international CBO & NGO gatherings as requested



  5.. Other Duties as Assigned by the Executive Director & the Director of
Programs & Partnerships




Job Requirements:

This position is open to Kenyan citizens who are able to travel
internationally and independently as well as in a group setting.



Education:                 Bachelor’s degree a requirement. Master’s an
added advantage  in a social science or closely related field, or
significant experience.



Experience:                One-year experience as a Program Coordinator,
preferably in the region.

Knowledge and experience with NGO development programs, a broad
understanding of overall conditions in Kenya at the national and global
levels, especially as they relate to women and children and specific
understanding of, and experience in HIV/AIDS.



Languages:                 A good knowledge of spoken and written English
and Kiswahili together with good computer skills is mandatory. Working
knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.



Communication:             He /she should be a team player with excellent
relational and communicational skills (oral and written). Ability to
facilitate groups in an educational and interfaith atmosphere.



Management:             Proven capabilities of personnel management and
financial resources management in multicultural and complex environments.



Contract:                    Three (3) year contract renewable on an annual
basis.



Remuneration:             Approximately 10,000USD P.A.



Expenses:                   Office expenses related to rent, cell phone,
internet, telephone, electricity, work related transportation and technology
assistance/repair to IPM equipment will be covered by IPM



Equipment:                Computer & printer, fax, telephone and answering
machine will be covered by IPM



Exclusions:                IPM does not provide health insurance to
contractual employees but highly recommends that they carry such coverage.
